Most YouTube viewers know of “family vlogs” and may even regularly watch them. For those who aren’t familiar, a vlog (or video blog) is like a traditional blog where the medium is video.  Family vloggers share their lives on a “face-to-face” basis while entertaining and informing their audience.

There are many types of vloggers across different social platforms.  However, the majority use YouTube as their primary vehicle to build their audience and distribute content.  YouTube gives vloggers all the necessary tools to express their creativity, including in-platform editing and post-processing software.

A recent study compiled by L2, a business intelligence firm, found that beauty vloggers dominate results for branded searches on YouTube (65% of first-page video results). This dwarfs organic search traffic even though brands had doubled their search real estate from 6% to 13% in 2015. This speaks to the increasing strength and influence of vloggers.

What types of videos does a Family Vlogger create?

Most family vloggers film clips of their everyday experiences such as raising their children, the ups and downs of a relationship, and even documenting exciting life changes like a pregnancy or buying a new home.  Those clips are then strung together into a 7-25-minute video (depending on the influencer) for their viewers to get a peek into their lives.  Many creators have commented that vlogging is like modern-day home movies, except instead of the tapes collecting dust in a storage closet, they are posted online for everyone to enjoy.
